Orlando, Florida (3.51x)
As one of the top five most visited cities in the US — and a domestic and international convention hub — this late 19th-century business center and former Seminole reservation became a mover and shaker of tourism in the second half of the 20th century.
Orlando is well known as the theme park capital of the world. In fact, the city was named the largest U.S. travel and tourism city destination for 2022 by World Travel & Tourism and as of November 2022 saw some 104.5 million visitors, stated USA Today.
According to the Pinkerton Crime Index (PCI), Orlando has a total crime risk score of 3.51x, with larceny or theft of personal property accounting for 71% of property crime. A score of 1.0x risk is equal to the national median, and a score of 2.0x means that the area is twice the risk.
PCI is vital to understanding crime variations in Florida areas because Florida is one of the states that stopped reporting crime to the FBI in 2018. PCI does not rely wholly on the FBI’s UCR for crime statistics but rather uses a wide variety of statistical and machine-learning algorithms to forecast crime risk into the near future.
