San Francisco, California (4.0x)
San Francisco is one of the top five most visited U.S. cities along with New York, Los Angeles, Miami, and Orlando.
An artistic center and a sub-culture hub, San Francisco has been a mover and shaker of the west coast’s creative trends since the middle of last century, hosting several animation studios and some of the most prominent startups – not to mention some world-renowned tourist spots like the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, Fisherman’s Wharf, and Ghirardelli Square, where’s there’s a whole area dedicated to chocolate.
According to the Pinkerton Crime Index (PCI), it ranks the highest on the top five list for total crime risk score, coming in at 4.0x. Crime risk scores are multiples of the national median crime risk. A score of 1x risk is equal to the national median, and a score of 2x that the area is twice as risky.
PCI also shows that the most common crimes are larceny, burglary, and motor vehicle theft.
