After two years of in-person event and festival cancellations, along with pandemic restrictions that brought tourism to a standstill, statistics show a strong rebound for Canada’s tourism industry in 2022 as numbers start to close the gaps to pre-pandemic levels.

Vancouver 1.5x, Toronto 0.96x, Niagara Falls 2.16x, Montreal 0.77x, Quebec City 1.19x

Take Toronto, for example, one of the five most visited cities in Canada — in good company with Vancouver, Quebec, Montreal, and Niagara Falls. According to touropia.com, Toronto is the most culturally diverse city on the planet, where more than 140 languages are spoken, and city officials hope to reach their 2019 numbers of nearly 28 million visitors — 9.5 million overnight visitors and 18.1 million day visitors.

As a whole, Vancouver’s home province of British Columbia welcomed approximately 3 million international visitors in the first 10 months of 2022 compared to the nearly 6.5 million international arrivals in all of 2019.

Quebec City reported a 63.2% increase in the number of passengers transiting through Jean Lesage International Airport and an increase in the hotel occupancy rate of 56.8% from 2021.

Are you packing your bags and visiting one of these cities this year? Check crime risk scores according to the Pinkerton Crime Index, our AI and frontier data science tool that’s updated monthly. Crime risk scores are multiples of the national median crime risk. A score of 1x risk is equal to the national median, and a score of 0.5x indicates that the area is half as risky. While PCI cannot predict if you will be the victim of a crime, it is important to know your crime risk so you can make informed decisions.
