The northeastern United States, birthplace of the nation and home to the smallest state, is the most populous region in the country. And the maps below show how these states scored on the Pinkerton Crime Index, our latest crime-fighting tool powered by AI and frontier data science and updated monthly. Crime risk scores are broken down into three categories: total crime, property crime, and violent crime risk. A lower score means a lower crime risk. A higher score means a higher risk. According to our data, the Pine Tree State, Maine ranks the lowest in total crime risk with a score of 0.72 relative to the national average, followed closely by New Hampshire, the Granite State.
